An all time favorite returns again this year! This wonderful adventure begins Day One on the Flint River located in the Bainbridge area of South Georgia. From there you’ll enter Lake Seminole and make your way through the Jim Woodruff Lock, a 33-foot drop. Upon exiting the lock you will be in Florida and headed south on the beautiful Apalachicola River. The water is smooth, the vegetation lush and the wildlife abundant. Today’s route will include a detour off the main channel onto the winding Chipola River, with lunch catered along the way.
Back on the Apalachicola River, you’ll complete your 135-mile day as you arrive at our destination of Apalachicola, FL just upstream from the Gulf of Mexico! Our home for 2 nights will be this quaint coastal town, known for some of the best seafood the Panhandle has to offer. We’ll overnight at the newest waterfront hotel, where everyone will have a “sweet” suite overlooking the river and a screened porch with a view just right for a sunrise and your morning coffee. (The only complaint we ever had on our “Hoochicola” 500 mile version of this trip, was that there was not enough time to enjoy the great accommodations here. We’ll have a bit more relaxed pace on this 380 mile version.) We’ll certainly be hungry after a full day on the water, so the group will meet up for a short walk to dinner where you’ll have a chance to try out some of that seafood you’ve been hearing about.
Day Two provides a 110-mile ride to one of our top favorite stops for lunch, just east of Panama City. The uninhabited route offers some great scenery and a good chance to spot some dolphins and other interesting wildlife along the way. We’ll relax there and have some fun at lunch and then return to “Apalach” in the afternoon via ICW and the Apalachicola River. You’ll have some free time that afternoon to relax on your own, hang out at the pool or explore the shops and historic homes around town. Whatever you chose to do, the group will meet that evening for a stroll into town for dinner at a local favorite…..and one of ours, too!
On Day 3 we’ll take you on a slightly different route out of the area and begin the journey back to Bainbridge via the Little St. Marks River, Apalachicola River, Chipola River, Lake Seminole and the Flint River. Lots of water, fabulous lodging, amazing food. Make a plan to join us on the 380-mile Apalach River Run to the Gulf (and back)! Upon your return, you’ll receive your commemorative t-shirt and our crew will assist with your departure.
