The mileage packed “Hoochicola” River Adventure will take you on 500 miles of water travel in three days! You’ll experience a real sense of adventure as you traverse the 4 rivers, 3 locks, 2 lakes, 1 bay and a piece of the Intracoastal Waterway that make up the route on this amazing “run to the sun.”
The group will start our travels early on Day One on Lake Walter F. George, just south of Columbus, Georgia. After just a short ride you’ll go through the first lock, which is the 2nd highest lock east of the Mississippi, with a drop of 88 feet. What an experience on a PWC! After being lowered through the lock, the group begins travel on the Chattahoochee River (also known as the “Hooch”). After a catered lunch, two more locks and a trip through Lake Seminole, you will be in Florida and headed south on the beautiful Apalachicola River. The water is smooth, the vegetation lush and the wildlife abundant. We’ll include a detour off the main channel onto the narrow, winding Chipola River before reaching our destination in Apalachicola, FL just a couple of miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico.
This quaint coastal town, known for some of the best seafood the Panhandle has to offer, will be our home for two nights. Upon completion of our first 195-mile day, we’ll be anxious to set our sights on Apalachicola’s newest luxury waterfront lodging, just off the main river channel. Each of the hotel’s suites is unique and preserves the atmosphere of “old Florida” throughout. After getting settled in, we’ll be ready try out our appetites on some of that famous seafood.
On Day Two you’ll have some time to relax on your own, see the town or join the group for a PWC run over to East Bay near Panama City. This is always a fun time and the uninhabited route offers some great scenery and a good chance to spot some dolphins and other interesting wildlife. We’ll have lunch at one of our all time favorite spots and return to “Apalach” in the afternoon. You’ll have some time to stroll around town where you’ll find plenty of unique shops, restaurants and historic homes – or you may want to just kick back on your own private river view veranda with a cold beverage (or two). Whatever you chose to do, the group will meet up later for dinner and try out some more of the delicious local cuisine.
The group is up early again on Day 3 as we make our return trip back to Georgia. We’ll pick up the pace a little on this last day of the trip and you’ll enjoy a slightly different route as we include a short ride on the Little St. Marks River. Upon your return, you’ll receive your commemorative t-shirt and our crew will assist with your departure. This trip really has it all….a great destination, luxury waterfront lodging, terrific meals, unbeatable scenery and real satisfaction for those of you that like a lot of seat time. Join us!!
