This is the ‘original’ Discovery River Tour and still gets rave reviews each and every year. This is the trip that started it all… back in 1993. The ride on this scenic river, great food and superior lodging are what have made this trip a classic for the past 20+ years. We always look forward to making this trip during September, when the climate is so comfortable and the waterways are less crowded. We’ll have new stops along the route for 2016, incorporating both the GA and S.C. sides of the river.
We start the river trip in Augusta, GA, and will travel 180 miles on Day One to the trendy destination of Savannah, GA. This is one of our most secluded long distance runs and boasts plenty of lush vegetation along side the quiet beauty of a real natural river as it winds and curves its way to the coast. We’ll provide a lunch catered riverside, as well as refreshments and snacks at each stop along the way.
We’ll reach civilization and industry again just a few miles before our destination of Savannah. After making our way through the bustling historic riverfront, we’ll arrive at our end point and the group will enjoy a low-country dinner and then be shuttled to our first-class accommodations located right on Savannah’s famous River Street.
Day 2 offers a guided trip on some of the scenic back rivers and creeks of the area around Savannah. Once out of Savannah proper, we’ll ride some of the beautiful marsh grass lined waterways that wind through the area. After lunch, the afternoon offers free time for you to enjoy the city of Savannah and the many shops, pubs, historic homes and sight-seeing tours within walking distance of our hotel. Alternate activites include a dip in the indoor pool, relaxing on the hotel’s riverfront patio or an afternoon nap. The group will meet up that evening for a stroll down River Street for a fabulous dinner at one of our favorites!
Awaken on Day 3 to the quiet beauty of the river in early morning. We’ll get you going with a full breakfast in the dining room overlooking the river, and then it’s off to the marina to begin our journey back upriver to Augusta. Once again, you’ll enjoy a topnotch lunch and refreshments along the way. At day’s end you will have completed 420 miles on the river that serves as the Georgia & South Carolina state lines.
